Frequently Asked Questions

At Lyke Bail Bonds, we know that an arrest is one of the most stressful experiences a person can face. Our goal is to provide clarity, respect, and a fast path home. Below are answers to the questions we hear most often. If you don’t see your question here, call us 24/7 at (507) 535 - 9589.

1. What is a Bail Bond?
A bail bond (technically a "surety bond") is a financial guarantee provided to the court to ensure that a defendant will appear for all scheduled court dates. When you hire Lyke Bail Bonds, we post the full amount of the bail with the court so your loved one can be released while their case is pending.

2. How much does a bail bond cost?
In most cases, the fee for a bail bond is 10% of the total bail amount set by the court. This fee is regulated by state law and is non-refundable, as it is the payment for the bonding company’s service and the risk taken on the full bond amount.

3. What information do I need when I call you?
To speed up the release process, please try to have the following ready:
1. The full legal name of the person in custody.
2. The name of the jail or county where they are being held.
3. The booking number (if you have it).
4. The total bail amount set by the judge.
5. If you don't have all of this, don't worry, call us anyway and we will help find the information for you.

4. What is a "Cosigner" (Indemnitor)?
A cosigner is a person—usually a friend or family member—who signs the bail bond contract along with the defendant. By cosigning, you take financial responsibility for the full amount of the bail if the defendant fails to show up for court.

5. Does Lyke Bail Bonds offer payment plans?
Yes. We understand that bail is often an unexpected expense. We offer low down payments and customizable payment plans to fit your budget. Our priority is getting your loved one home; we will work with you to find a financial solution that makes sense.

6. When do I get my money back?
The 10% premium paid to Lyke Bail Bonds is a fee for services rendered and is not refundable. However, if you provided "cash collateral" (money held in addition to the fee to secure the bond), that is returned in full once the court has exonerated the bond and the case is closed.

7. How long does it take for someone to be released?
Once we post the bond, the timing is up to the jail's processing speed. Usually, release happens within 2 to 4 hours, though larger county facilities may take longer. Lyke Bail Bonds agents work quickly to file paperwork immediately so there are no delays on our end.

8. What happens if the defendant misses a court date?
If a court date is missed, contact us immediately. Most of the time, we can help "reinstate" the bond and get a new court date scheduled. If the defendant goes into hiding, the bond may be forfeited, and the cosigner becomes liable for the full bail amount. Communication is the key to avoiding these issues.

9. Do we accept collect calls?
Yes. We do accept collect calls from all jails.

10. Why choose Lyke Bail Bonds?
We aren't just a bonding company; we are your neighbors. We pride ourselves on:
1. Speed: We are available 24/7, 365 days a year.
